An Example - TEAM CHARTER

MISSION
Our mission is to establish a community of practice to help us accomplish our goals and objectives that lead to successful outcomes.
OBJECTIVE
To align our efforts to the following “Team” goals.
-
To develop expert knowledge of collaborative learning structures and methods.
-
To establish and maintain a cohesive community of practice throughout the course.
-
To adhere to standards in development of a professional learning community that promotes continual improvement, collective responsibility, and accountability.
-
To understand the pitfalls of group work and identify solutions that builds consensus and ensures participation of all members of the team.
-
To apply appropriate conflict management strategies and best practices.
-
To provide a triangle of trust among our team, other groups, and teacher leadership.
To align our efforts to the following expectations outlined in “Faculty Expectations”.
1. To put “our” full effort into the assignments.
2. To be human. Make mistakes but try hard and keep improving on those mistakes. Try new things and ways to accomplish them. Avoid getting stuck in a comfortable rut of what you have seen done in the past.
3. Support each other. We are all in this class together and have lives outside of taking classes. Be supportive and encouraging to each other. This does not mean to patronize each other, but provide feedback in a respectful, adult manner. If someone is struggling with an idea, provide them the tools/examples that help them understand the concept better.
4. Communication! Again, we are all busy. Plan ahead first, but if something happens advance notice will be given. Learning can be messy and requires open communication.

TEAM OPERATIONS
Expectations.
A team member may want to take on a role that they are more comfortable or familiar with. They should volunteer to do so with the understanding of the time commitment required. This applies to all roles on the team: Contributor, Reviewer, Evaluator, Decision Maker, and/or Facilitator.
BUT, Do not be afraid to explore hidden talents as well. We can take this opportunity to enhance our skill set(s), individually and as a team.

When we start a given task, it would be a good idea to have a short discussion about each of our strengths and how best to use them, especially as we try to share and balance the workload.

Regardless of whomever is in charge, every idea is vital in making a given task go smoothly.

Retrospective on Team Effectiveness.
In order to evaluate our team's overall effectiveness, feedback will be collected in the form of a survey or poll to determine one or more of the following:
